Lehi’s Sydney White voted Week 7 athlete of the week

Another week of voting produced a near landslide victory as Lehi fans turned out in droves to select Pioneer volleyball star Sydney White the Preps Utah player of the week for Week 7 in voting this school year. It was a close race early, but as the week progressed, White pulled away from four other volleyball players in voting for our weekly top performer.

In last week’s Preps Utah player of the week voting, nearly 1,300 votes were cast, and White received more than 45 percent of them. Pleasant Grove’s Bailey Nixon led her team to the 5A state title over White’s Lehi squad, but she finished second in our athlete of the week voting, with just over 25 percent. Aleksa Parker from Snow Canyon was third with about 15 percent, while Lyndie Haddock of Timpview and Savanna Boehme from Sky View split the rest of the votes. The results make White the seventh winner of our weekly award for the 2014-2015 school year, with voting taking place online at PrepsUtah.com, and she is our top athlete for the week of Nov. 10.

White is a junior libero at Lehi and she also pitched the Pioneers to the state title in softball last spring. Her ability to run down balls all over the court was critical in Lehi’s run to the state title match this year.

She will receive a Preps Utah Athlete of the Week t-shirt and be entered into the pool for a school year-end drawing for a possible scholarship.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.

At the end of the school year, we will draw at random one of our female and one male weekly winner, and the two athletes whose names are selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past two years, we have awarded $4,000 in scholarships to Utah high school student-athletes.
