Just as it seems like she has been from the time she arrived on the Fremont High campus, Shelbee Molen was strong from start to finish in voting for the Preps Utah player of the week for the week of Feb. 2, 2015. The voters have spoken for Week 16 of this school year, and with nearly 2,000 total votes coming in at PrepsUtah.com, Molen pulled away from four other girls basketball players little by little throughout the week.
The Fremont scorer received more than 45 percent of the vote, with Lone Peak’s Kelsey McCann in second place with just under 30 percent. Thirteen percent voted for Alyssa Park of Bear River, while Bountiful’s Kennedy Redding and Tiffany Madson from Salem Hills split the remaining votes.

Molen is preparing to lead the Silver Wolves into the state tournament seeking to repeat as Class 5A champions before she heads to Brigham Young University to play collegiately beginning next season. Fremont won its last five games of the season to share the Region 1 title, as Molen scored more than 16 points per contest.
Molen will receive a Preps Utah Athlete of the Week t-shirt and be entered into the pool for a school year-end drawing for a possible scholarship.
Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
At the end of the school year, we will draw at random one of our female and one male weekly winner, and the two athletes whose names are selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past two years, we have awarded $4,000 in scholarships to Utah high school student-athletes.
