Riverton goalkeeper Seegmiller voted Preps Utah Week 23 POW

Riverton High goalkeeper Parker Seegmiller got out of the gates quickly in voting for the Week 23 Preps Utah player of the week award, and the fast start was enough for him to hold off a late charge by Alta keeper Einar Johnson. Seegmiller was the leading vote-getter for the week of March 23, 2015, when slightly less than 1,000 votes were received.

Seegmiller finished with just over 50 percent of the votes in a what turned out to be largely a two-way race between he and Johnson, who topped just under 40 percent. Provo soccer player Jonathan Ruvalcaba finished third with slightly more than five percent, while Josh Young from Logan and Snow Canyon’s Angel Muniz split the remaining votes.

Seegmiller has delivered three shutouts in the Silverwolves’ eight contests so far, and he allowed just one goal in four others as Riverton is out to a 7-1 record to open the soccer season. The senior goalkeeper is looking to duplicate his numbers from last year, when the Silverwolves won the state title and he recorded a dozen shutouts.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.

At the end of the school year, we will draw at random one of our female and one male weekly winner, and the two athletes whose names are selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past two years, we have awarded $4,000 in scholarships to Utah high school student-athletes.
