Second baseman Kaylee Bott of Spanish Fork voted athlete of the week

Voting for the Preps Utah player of the week during Week 26 of the 2014-2015 school year was close early, but as the week of April 13, 2015 continued, Spanish Fork’s Kaylee Bott pulled away from the four other nominated softball players. As it turned out, the Lady Dons’ second baseman won by one of the largest margins of the season, as just under 1,000 total votes were received.

Bott captured more than 60 percent of the votes to pull away from Stansbury’s Kimbri Herring and Madison Rogers of Brighton, who finished in a dead heat for second place with 15 percent of the vote each. Emma Noble from Murray and Breah Ava of West split the remaining votes.

Bott and her Spanish Fork teammates remain unbeaten and on top of the Region 8 standings as they look to improve on their third-place finish in last year’s state tournament. Seventeen of the senior’s 33 hits have gone for extra bases, and she carries a batting average just under .500. Bott also had an on-base percentage of nearly .600.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.

At the end of the school year, we will draw at random one of our female and one male weekly winner, and the two athletes whose names are selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past two years, we have awarded $4,000 in scholarships to Utah high school student-athletes.
