The Week 2 (2015-16 school sports year) voting for the Preps Utah player of the week turned into an exciting back-and-forth affair, with supporters of Herriman football’s Noah Vaea and Provo’s Dallan Olsen taking turns helping their favorite player surge ahead in the poll.
By the time the week was over, the Bulldog defensive star was the last man standing, netting more than 50 percent of the more than 6,000 votes cast. Olsen finished at 53 percent, with Vaea coming in at 44 percent. The remaining votes were split between Dane Leituala of Taylorsville, Summit Academy’s Justin Miller and Park City’s Spencer Zur.
Olsen leads the state in quarterback sacks with 14 as he and his Provo teammates are in position to get back into the postseason mix this year. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in Region 7 play and 5-2 overall.
Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
We turn our attention to volleyball for this week’s voting as five of the state’s top players are up for your consideration: Alexsa “Crash” Parker, Snow Canyon; Rachel Parson, Northridge; Rylin Roberts, Lehi; Aubrey Saunders, Morgan and Amanda Schultz, Springville.
