Wasatch kicker Skyler Southam voted Week 8 player of the week

Nearly 4,000 votes were recorded in our Week 8 Preps Utah 2015-2016 player of the week poll and the majority of our voters went with the kicker. The lead went back and forth for the first part of the week before record-setting Wasatch kicker Skyler Southam pulled away to claim the honor for the week of Nov. 9.

Southam finished with just over 55 percent of the votes and Brighton receiver Simi Fehoko received 35 percent. Alta running back Joshua Davis gained five percent, with the remaining votes split between Jordan’s Drew Lisk and Spencer Applegarth of North Sanpete.

The Wasatch kicker set state records for field goals made in a season (20) and in a career (36) and also intercepted four passes this past season as a Wasp defensive back. He has committed to kick collegiately at Brigham Young University.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
