Another week with more than 15,000 votes cast for the PrepsUtah.com player of the week and another week with two athletes trading the lead back and forth. When it was all said and done, Juan Diego Catholic’s Kaden Hayward was the top vote-getter, claiming our Week 10 Preps Utah 2015-2016 player of the week poll honor. Hayward finally overcame and held off East High running back Jaylen Warren to receive the recognition for the week of Nov. 23.
Hayward finished with just over 7,500 votes (just over 50 percent) to hold off Warren, who received nearly 43 percent of the vote. Herriman’s Leki Fotu, Matthew Roberts of Beaver and Logan’s Hunter Horsley split the remaining votes.
Hayward carried 19 times for 172 yards and a touchdown in the Soaring Eagle’s 28-13 Class 3A state championship game victory over Morgan. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound running back finished the season with 1,431 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns.
Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
