Week 14 in the 2015-2016 PrepsUtah.com player of the week voting was our second consecutive week with more than 4,000 votes. In a face-off between five boys swimmers held over two weeks (the weeks of Dec. 28 and Jan. 4) due to the New Year’s holiday, Chad Patterson of Wasatch survived what turned into a two-way chase for the top spot with a strong late run.
Patterson finished with just over 50 percent of the votes, while Cole Jackman of Skyline ended up with close to 43 percent. Lucas Hess from Park City, Jaron Nelson of Box Elder and Canyon View’s Nathan Wallace split the remaining votes.
Patterson, a senior, was third in the 100-yard freestyle and second in the 100 butterfly at last year’s state swimming championships. So far this season, he has delivered Top 5 times in a number of events as swimming heads towards region finals and the state meet.
Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
