Judge Memorial’s Vanessa Austin voted Week 21 POW

Week 21 in the PrepsUtah.com player of the week for the 2015-2016 school sports year turned into one of our most one-sided polls thus far. With more than 500 votes tallied, Judge Memorial girls basketball star Vanessa Austin was the fan favorite for the week of Feb. 22, as she was chosen in an overwhelming fashion over four other basketball stars.

Austin finished with more than 90 percent of the votes to carry the week, while Sky View’s Kaylee Carlsen, Mariah Martin of Alta, Harley Hansen from Fremont and Snow Canyon’s Madison Mooring split the remaining votes.

Austin is a dominant post player for the Bulldogs, and she led them into the second round of the state tournament. For the season, she scored 16.8 points and pulled down eight rebounds per game.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
