A tight vote opened up a little towards the end of Week 22 in the PrepsUtah.com player of the week for the 2015-2016 school sports year. With more than 600 votes recorded, Summit Academy basketball star Darrin Gethers was the fan favorite for the week of Feb. 29, holding off Bingham big man Yoeli Childs for the honor.
Gethers received just over 53 percent of the votes to win the week, while Childs finished at 40 percent. Frank Jackson of Lone Peak, Isaac Monson from Olympus and Timpview’s Gavin Baxter split the remaining votes.
Gethers was among the top scorers in Class 2A this season, dropping more than 20 points per game. He took his game to a new level during the state tournament, scoring more than 23 a night over the four games of the tourney to lead Summit Academy to the 2A state championship.
