High-scoring Hunter Spray of Desert Hills voted POW

With four boys soccer stars nominated, voting during Week 27 of the player of the week program for the 2015-16 school sports year produced one of our lower vote totals, but of the 700 people who did participate, Desert Hills delivered once again. This week, Thunder soccer’s high-scoring Hunter Spray came out on top.

Spray received the support of more than 65 percent of those who weighed in, with Provo’s Jonathan Ruvalcaba finishing second. Toby Holmes (Wasatch), Preston Taylor (Fremont) and Justin Motzkus (Hunter) split the remaining votes.

The Desert Hills star leads the state in scoring after knocking his 21st and 22nd goals in Tuesday’s win over Pine View. The Thunder are off to a 9-2 start and sit in third place in Region 9. The senior has scored 29 goals in his Desert Hills career.

Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
