Our biggest vote total of the year made Lone Peak High volleyball’s Madi Robinson the winner of the PrepsUtah.com player of the week honor for Week 9 of the 2016-17 school sports year. Robinson held off a strong challenge from supporters of Bountiful’s Seyvion Waggoner to claim the top spot in our poll for the week of Nov. 7.
With more than 10,000 votes received, Robinson took the top spot with nearly 55 percent of the vote, while Waggoner came in at close to 45 percent. Ashlin Blonquist of North Summit, Anna Cox from Morgan and Rich’s Shantae Miller split the remaining votes.
Robinson, a junior, led the Knights to the 2016 5A state volleyball title at the end of a spectacular season. She was one of the most efficient hitters in the state, finishing second overall for the season in hitting percentage.
Each week, we select five new candidates for consideration by the followers of prep sports in the state of Utah as the Preps Utah athlete of the week. Readers vote online on our website at PrepsUtah.com and the winner is announced on Monday, when five new nominees are announced.
