After leading his team to its second consecutive state championship, Zach Hoffman of Juan Diego Catholic High football ran away with PrepsUtah.com player of the week honor for Week 10 of the 2016-17 school sports year. Hoffman earned more votes than four other football players to claim the top spot in our poll for the week of Nov. 14.
With just over 500 votes received, Hoffman received the support of just less than 85 percent, while Layne Anderson of Kanab, Brandon Dansie from South Summit, Duchesne’s Ammon Graehl and Jordan Hardy of Beaver split the remaining votes.
Hoffman was part of a three-pronged rushing attack that carried the Soaring Eagle to another 3A state football title as he ran it for 156 yards in a state semifinal victory over Juab, and then rushed for 99 while passing for 150 yards in the state title win over Delta. For the season, the Juan Diego quarterback ran for more than 1,100 yards and passed for just over 1,000 more yards.
