Running backs take center stage – Week 6 football top performances

The running backs took over Week 6 in Utah high school football. There were some big performances in the passing game, but from Class 1A to 6A, from Southern Utah to way up North, runners turned in big numbers in the ground game.

The list of elite individual performances from all across the state this past weekend is long, so as we do each week, based on the available information at the multiple sources we can access for stats, here are some of the top performances….

 

Quarterbacks

Cooper Legas (Orem) connected on 18-of-27 passes for 391 yards and five scores, and ran it seven times for another 127 to lead the Tigers (1-0 Region 10, 4-2 overall) past Mountain View 49-0.

Brock Jones (Lone Peak) completed 22-of-29 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Knights (1-0 Region 4, 5-1) to a 53-34 victory over American Fork.

Cammon Cooper (Lehi) was 25-for-41 for 414 yards and three TDs as the Pioneers (1-0 Region 6, 4-2) defeated Olympus 33-3.

Daisean Cash (Hunter) connected on 25-of-38 throws for 345 yards and five scores as the Wolverines (2-0 Region 2, 3-3) held off Granger 34-29.

Zach Wilson (Corner Canyon) completed 12-of-20 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 147 yards and another score on 27 carries to lead the Chargers (1-0 Region 7, 5-0) to a critical 44-7 league win over Timpview.

Crew Wakley (Jordan) hit on 20-of-25 tosses for 305 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran seven times for 101 yards to lead the Beetdiggers (1-0 Region 7, 5-1) to a 49-21 victory over Brighton.

Hayden Reynolds (Summit Academy) was 24-for-33 for 281 yards and five TDs as the Bears (2-0 3A South, 6-0) took care of North Sanpete 50-14.

Will Dana (Alta) completed 14-of-17 passes for 245 yards and four scores as the Hawks (1-0 Region 7, 3-2) overwhelmed Cottonwood 66-7.

 

Running Backs

Dakota Johnson (Grand) carried 18 times for 211 yards and five touchdowns in the Devils’ (2-0 2A South, 6-0 overall) 56-14 win over North Sevier.

Porter Miller (Parowan) went for 246 yards and three scores on 22 runs to lead Parowan (4-1) to a 26-0 non-region win over Rich.

Sese Felila (Kearns) picked up 210 yards and three TDs on 20 carries to pace the Cougars (1-0 Region 2, 5-1) past Cyprus 41-27.

Gage Schmidt (Grantsville) ran it 28 times for 206 yards and three scores as the Cowboys (1-1 3A North, 2-4) knocked off Union 43-15.

Bronson Fox (Bonneville) carried 24 times for 187 yards and a pair of scores in the Lakers (1-1 Region 11, 2-4) defeated Park City 24-10.

Cameron Brown (Viewmont) delivered 183 yards and two TDs on 25 carries to lead the Vikings (1-0 Region 5, 4-2) to the 38-13 win over Box Elder.

Mosese Sonasi (Granger) went for 194 yards and three touchdowns as the Lancers (1-1 Region 2, 1-5) lost a tight one to Hunter.

Jeno Bins (Tooele) ran 26 times for 173 yards and two TDs to lead the Buffaloes (1-1 Region 11, 3-3) beat Ben Lomond 37-7.

Colton White (Highland) had 16 carries for 173 yards and two scores as the Rams (2-0 Region 6, 4-2) defeated Skyline 61-36.

Alex White (Juab) had 20 rushes for 161 yards and a TD to lead the Wasps (2-0 3A South, 4-2) to a 26-19 victory over Manti.

Sione Molisi (East) ran 21 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns as the Leopards (2-0 Region 3, 5-1) survived a battle with Herriman 14-10.

Masen Wake (Lone Peak) carried 21 times for 160 yards and a pair of scores to provide the ground game in the Knights win over American Fork.

Hobbs Nyberg (Dixie) had 23 rushes for 158 yards and a TD as the Flyers (2-0 Region 9, 5-1) beat Pine View 24-14.

Brock Parry (Desert Hills) ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Thunder (3-0 Region 9, 4-2) past Canyon View 55-7.

Silas Young (Stansbury) picked up 158 yards and four touchdowns on 21 attempts in the Stallions (2-0 Region 11, 3-3) knocked off Ogden 56-20.

Bradley Nicol (Springville) gained 153 yards and scored two TDs as the Red Devils (1-0 Region 8, 3-3) took care of Maple Mountain 39-20.

 

Receivers

Puka Nacua (Orem) picked up 201 yards and three TDs on seven catches in Orem’s win over Mountain View.

Parker Clawson (Summit Academy) had 11 grabs for 164 yards and two scores in the Bears’ win over North Sanpete.

Nathan Upham (Skyridge) had four receptions for 157 yards and three touchdowns as the Falcons (1-0 Region 8, 6-0) toppled Provo 46-12.

Jaxon Moody (Lehi) had eight catches for 155 yards and three scores in the Pioneers’ win over Olympus.

Colton Willson (Emery) caught six passes for 153 yards and a touchdown as Emery (1-1 3A North, 1-5) held off Carbon 18-16.

Ma’a Hall (Taylorsville) returned kick-offs 85 and 91 yards for touchdowns, and also caught a pair of TD passes as the Warriors (0-2 Region 3, 2-4) lost to West Jordan 40-34.

Kainoa Maldonado (Pleasant Grove) caught 10 balls for 132 yards and two TDs to lead the Vikings (0-1 Region 4, 1-5) won a non-league game 56-14 over Hillcrest.

Defense

Bryson Percival (West Jordan) had 21 tackles and a 21-yard pick-6 as the Jaguars (2-0 Region 3, 5-1) defeated Taylorsville 40-34.

Carson Myers (Wasatch) contributed eight tackles and two picks in the Wasps (1-0 Region 8, 3-2) took care of Timpanogos 31-7.

Jay Carrigan (Morgan) had two interceptions as the Trojans (2-0 3A North, 4-2) picked up a 28-21 win over Judge Memorial.

Dallen Kimball (Tooele) intercepted two passes in the Buffaloes’ win over Ben Lomond.

Cy Denney (Weber) also picked off a pair of passes as the Warriors (3-0 Region 1, 5-1) shut out Syracuse 23-0.

Dylan Ivins (San Juan) had 14 tackles to power San Juan (1-1 2A South, 2-4) to a 14-6 victory over Monticello.
