PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 7 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Mark Morrison of the Pleasant Grove High girls cross country team. Morrison led the Vikings to their first-ever girls state cross country championship, and they are also the very first team to win a Utah Class 6A title, with that new classification just coming online this year.
Since 2007, the large-school classification (5A until this season) girls cross country championship has gone to either American Fork or Davis, but Morrison’s Pleasant Grove runners put an end to that this year. Senior Haley Tanne was the Vikings’ top finisher in 18:12.2, which placed her third individually. Junior Mya McKown crossed ninth and senior Skye Jeppson was 14th.
Pleasant Grove’s work in dethroning the dominant cross country programs of the last decade earns Coach Morrison our honor for the week of Oct. 16, 2017, the Week 7 selection for our girls team Anython Coach of the Week honor.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to email@example.com.
