PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 9 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Andrew Fresques of the Woods Cross High football team. Entering Friday night’s first-round state tournament contest against traditional powerhouse Timpview as a huge underdog, Fresques led his Wildcat team to a 28-24 victory.
Woods Cross, 6-4 during the regular season, finished strong with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns on the road at Timpview, as Justice Samuelu ran one in from 44 yards out and Carston Naegle connected with Judge Samuelu from 18 yards for another score. The Wildcats turned Timpview over six times, including an interception in the closing seconds to finish things off.
Naegle completed 27-of-42 for 273 yards and three scores, connecting with Judge Samuelu nine times for 138 yards and Franky Jacobsen 10 times for 82 yards and a TD. The playoff-opening shocker earned Coach Fresques our honor for the week of Oct. 30, 2017, the Week 9 selection for our boys team Anython Coach of the Week.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to email@example.com.
