PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 9 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Samantha Stephens of the North Summit High volleyball team. Stephens and her Region 16 champions finished a UHSAA Class 2A championship season with a 23-10 record (9-0 in region play).
Led by the team’s lone senior, Hunter Vernon, who returned to the team mid-season after recovering from a torn ACL injury suffered during the previous basketball season, the Braves rolled through the state tournament’s early rounds. North Summit swept Draper APA, St. Joseph and Millard before winning a classic four-set state finale over 24-8 Enterprise (25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 34-32). Junior Brecklyn Murdock and sophomore Kennady McQueen joined with Vernon to lead the way for the Braves.
The 2A championship earned Coach Stephens our honor for the week of Oct. 30, 2017, the Week 9 selection for our girls team Anython Coach of the Week.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
