PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 13 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Alexis Kaufusi of the Mountain View High girls basketball team. Kaufusi is rapidly building a strong program at Mountain View, where the Bruins are off to a 3-0 start this season with lopsided victories over three of the state’s most esteemed programs.
Mountain View beat Pleasant Grove 55-31, took care of Timpview 70-55 and knocked off defending state 5A champion American Fork 73-36 in an impressive string of performances to open the new campaign. A year ago, the new-on-the-scene Bruins put together a 12-game winning streak while building a 13-1 Region 7 co-championship season during which they were 19-4 overall.
After that season ended disappointingly, and with leading scorer Lavender Briggs gone to Provo High, this year’s early results show great resilience for Kaufusi’s team, which is currently led by Tahlia White and Skye Lindsay. The early-season success makes Coach Kaufusi our Anython girls team Coach of the Week for the week of Dec. 4, 2017.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
