PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 15 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Ron Lockwood of the Cottonwood High girls swimming team. Lockwood has been developing some of the state’s top swimmers for many years, and this season is no exception. Led by senior Rhyan White, one of the state’s all-time top performers, Lockwood has his Cottonwood team on the verge of a state championship run after the Colts remained in Class 5A when UHSAA added a sixth classification for this school year.
Lockwood’s girls team finished fourth at state in 2016 and moved up to second a year ago, but with White and a quartet of talented freshmen, he has his team on a great path. Quinn Stephenson, Emma Walker, Madison Cutler and Kennedy Callaway all have a great future ahead, but the present looks pretty good as well.
The continued success in developing championship swimmers makes Coach Lockwood our Anython girls team Coach of the Week for the weeks of Dec. 18 and Dec, 25, 2017.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
