Anython Coach of the Week

Anython boys team coach of Week 16-Gregg Stensgard, Uintah wrestling

PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.

Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.

Our Week 16 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Gregg Stensgard of the Uintah High wrestling team. The coach led the Utes to state championships in 1998 and 1998, but it has been a long drought since that last title. Stensgard has this year’s team looking like the leading contender for the 4A crown.

Led by top-ranked Gavin Ayotte (120 pounds), Cub Deets (126) and Tanner Moon (170), Uintah is the No. 1 ranked 4A team in the state by Utah USA Wrestling. Eight Ute grapplers are ranked among the top three in their individual weight classes, and that should put Uintah in a very strong position when the state meets begin next month. It might have been close to 20 years since that last title, but the Utes sit second all-time in the state, with 23 total wrestling titles. Stensgard’s crew is looking to make that 24.

The continued success with his outstanding program at Uintah makes Coach Stensgard our Anython boys team Coach of the Week for the weeks of Jan. 1 and Jan. 8, 2018.

Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to kurt@prepsutah.com.
