PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 16 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Marc Peterson of the Richfield High girls basketball team. In his 18th year coaching the Wildcats, Peterson has his team off to a fantastic 10-1 start, 2-0 in Region 15 play. The team’s only loss came in its season opener against Class 4A power Salem Hills.
Of late, Richfield is on a roll and is looking to take another step forward after finishing second in Class 3A a year ago. The Wildcats are one of the favorites to chase this season’s 3A state championship behind the play of senior guard Emma Jones, who scored 16 points per contest.
Peterson’s tenure at Richfield includes three state championships (2009, 2010 and 2013) and he sits in the Top 10 in delivering consecutive wins, as his 2008 and 2009 teams won 32 in a row.
The continued success in developing outstanding student athletes at Richfield makes Coach Peterson our Anython girls team Coach of the Week for the weeks of Jan. 1 and Jan. 8, 2018.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
