PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 21 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Joel Holman of the Juab High wrestling team. Holman’s father, Ladd, led the Delta wrestlers to nine consecutive state championships between 1985 and 1993, and now his son has begun a little run of his own.
Joel, whose Juab team won its second straight 3A state championship in 2018, took care of business against the school at which his father coached, as Delta made the move from 2A to 3A this year. Notably, the Wasps captured this banner on the night that the elder Holman was introduced into the Utah High School Activities Association Circle of Fame.
Led by a dozen wrestlers who finished in the top four of their respective weight classes, and paced by three-time state champion Gentry Warner at 132 pounds, Juab repeated as winners of a state title. That result makes Joel Holman our Anython boys team Coach of the Week for the week of Feb. 12, 2018.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to email@example.com.
