Anython Coach of the Week

Anython boys team coach of Week 23-Tre Smith, Cyprus basketball has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.

Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.

Our Week 23 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Tre Smith of the Cyprus High boys basketball team. Smith continues to create a fantastic story at his alma mater as he led the Pirates to their first state tournament since 2004 with a 14-10 season that was a nine-win improvement from the prior year.

Cyprus tied for second place in Region 2 with a 7-5 record and the Pirates handed region champion Kearns its only league loss of the campaign. Prior to 2017-2018, Cyprus was 5-18 in 2016-2017. Before that, it won a total of five games over three seasons and the Pirates last winning record was that 2003-2004 team that was the last Cyprus squad to reach the state playoffs.

Paced by Josh Amasio, Tayven Aloi, Alex Foster, Skyler Case and Cody Meza, the former University of Utah player, Smith, is delivering impressive results that make him our Anython boys team Coach of the Week for the week of Feb. 26, 2018.
