Anython Coach of the Week

Anython boys team coach of Week 24-Devin Shakespear, Manti basketball

PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.

Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.

Our Week 24 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Devin Shakespear of the Manti High boys basketball team. For Shakespear it was his second state title on the bench with the Templars, as his team also took home the banner in 2015.

This year’s 3A state champs actually finished third in Region 15 with a 7-5 record (19-7 overall), and lost to league champion South Sevier during the regular season by scores of 63-38 and 71-64, but with the bigger title on the line, the Templars were 63-50 victors to cut down the nets for the state championship.

Whereas, Manti had fallen victim to strong third quarters from South Sevier in earlier meetings, it was its own 18-1 run in the third that put this one away. That was after the Templars put together an 18-0 run in the second half during their semifinal win over Grantsville.

Shakespear got the most out of tourney MVP Matt Nelson and he is our Anython boys team Coach of the Week for the week of March 5, 2018.

Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to kurt@prepsutah.com.
