PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 26 2017-2018 boys team coach of the week is Taylor McFarland of the Westlake High baseball team. After back-to-back two-win seasons, the Thunder are out of the gate 3-1 this season as McFarland and company try to prepare for an even more difficult Region 4 schedule that they have needed to navigate in prior seasons.
Behind strong pitching from Bryson Vansickle and Andrew Pavia, the three early wins are a good sign that McFarland has his team poised to compete as the league schedule approaches, with baseball powerhouse Bingham now joining Westlake and league powers Lone Peak, American Fork and Pleasant Grove to make what is probably the state’s most difficult baseball region.
Especially considering that his team has won a total of eight games over the prior three campaigns, the 3-1 start makes McFarland our Anython boys team Coach of the Week for the week of March 19, 2018.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
