PrepsUtah.com has joined forces with Anython to announce this year’s coach of the week honorees. Each week during this school year, we select a boys team and a girls team coach who represents the best the state has to offer in coaching excellence.
Anython, a unique company helping teams and groups raise money to run their programs, is the sponsor of this award. The company will present to each weekly winner a certificate and a coach of the week water bottle and will provide the teams at the winners’ schools a special offer to utilize the fundraising services it provides.
Our Week 26 2017-2018 girls team coach of the week is Karly Bates of the Clearfield High softball team. Coming off a 2017 season in which it finished fourth in the state’s Class 5A state tournament, Clearfield heads towards the start of the Region 1 schedule this year at 6-0.
Bates took over as the head coach this season, after the Falcons delivered an 18-8 overall mark a year ago, and after losing their postseason opener, ran off four straight wins in the elimination bracket before falling a couple of wins short of the title. The new head coach is working to pick up where that team left off.
This year’s team is off to a fast start, paced by the pitching of Braxtyn Haynes and strong play from Macy Benincosa and Rachael Brown, and as Bates and company set their sights on another strong showing, the 6-0 start makes Bates our Anython girls team Coach of the Week for the week of March 19, 2018.
Nominate a deserving coach for one of our weekly honors by sending an email with the name, school and sport of the coach and the reason we should honor him or her to firstname.lastname@example.org.
